NDP leadership candidates' economic policies are all far left and crazy

  • Raise federal minimum wage to $15 an hour and index to inflation
  • Increase maximum amount for Working Income Tax Benefit and make it available to more low-income earners, including full-time workers. Allows those living in poverty to keep up to $1,000 of their money to spend on essentials (rent/food)

    • Investing in a Job Action Plan to fund the large-scale job creating infrastructure projects required to transition to the green and automated economy. These investments total $90 billion over a 10 year period:
      • $32 billion into new renewable energy production and technologies(solar, wind, geothermal)
      • $30 billion to retrofit buildings into Green Buildings and identify energy efficiencies
      • $18 billion for public transit expenditures, to reduce both personal emissions and overall transportation emissions
      • $10 billion for Higher Speed Rail Transport, to take more cars off our roads and highways.
  • Update Canada Labour Code to replace 8-hour workday w/ 7-hour workday
  • Reduce number of hours required for EI eligibility from 900 to 360
  • Allow workers who lose their jobs due to the transition to get full Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits starting at age 60, w/ out penalty

      • Increase capital gains inclusion rate from 50% to 75%
      • Implement a 40% estate tax on assets in surplus of $4 million. Primary residences will be exempt
      • Increase corporate tax rate from 15% to 19.5%
